Why are We The Horse Capital of the World®?

The Marion County area’s rolling hills, large pastures and majestic grand oak trees are the perfect background for horse farms, training facilities and world-class competitive events. Ocala’s mild climate and limestone-rich soils make it ideal to raise and train young horses year-round.

Ocala Horse Population over 80,000 horses
Marion County is home to over 1,100 horse farms. More than 200 farms breed, foal, train and show as many as 50 other breeds. Each year about 4,000 thoroughbred foals are born in Marion County.

Triple Crown Connections
American Pharoah and Affirmed are both closely connected to Ocala/Marion County. American Pharoah won the Triple Crown in 2015. American Pharoah born in Kentucky, and trained at the McKathan Brothers Training Center. Affirmed, the 1978 Triple Crown Winner, was born and trained in Ocala.
